The Rangers signed Adrian Brown
to a minor league contract this year. Originally a 48th round
draft pick by the Pirates in 1992, he's never caught on in the
big leagues. Consistent with his career history, the Rangers
are thinking of him
as a potential baserunner rather than a bat. Along with
Adam Hyzdu and Erubiel Durazo, he's battling to get a bench
job. Two years ago,
Baseball America
said he was the best pick in any 48th round in the history of
the draft, an accolade that should tell you how difficult it is to find guys like
Mike Piazza.
